That stream of stimulant you speak about in the first paragraph? That increases slowly and ultimately wakes you up and gets you out of bed? It already exists, just so you know, in a natural form that your body makes - it's called "cortisol". The reason no one seems to have any is because it's made by your adrenals, and most people's adrenals are in the toilet, for a variety of reasons. How does coffee work? Basically, it kicks the adrenals that are already exhausted and makes them work harder. Which is why it's also considered a stimulant.

Thought you'd like to know ;-)

Oh, do I hear you! Between the insomnia that I experience as a formerly and having to get up at 6 most mornings to get my 8th grader off on her one-hour trek to school, I can barely open my eyes without the coffee. There are those coffee machines you can time to have the pot made before you wake up. I don't have one, but I should--at least until your brilliant IV drip gets patented.

It's now 10 am and I'm still sluggish. Might be time for a Diet Coke. Except that would require me to go out and get one and I'm not sure I have the energy,
